There are many benefits to both Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicare Supplement Plans, but which one you should choose is based off your circumstances and needs.
Medicare Advantage Plans
Medicare Advantage Plans are typically picked for those who want a plan that doesn't need any other stand-alone plans such as Prescription Drug and sometimes Dental, Vision, and Hearing. Some of these plans even come with extra benefits such as gym memberships and transportation assistance. Due to how everything is packed into one plan it can be easier to manage versus a Medicare Supplement Plan which wouldn't come with any Prescription, Dental, Vision, or Hearing coverage.
Another reason you may want a Medicare Advantage Plan is typically they have a lower or no monthly premium, the premium can change yearly. Most Medicare Advantage Plans use co-pays, they are typically lower premium because they require co-pays when you see or receive treatment from your primary care physician or specialists.
Medicare Advantage Plans may have a network, meaning that you have to go to doctors and specialists in that network to receive care that will accept your insurance plan.
Medicare Supplement Plans
Medicare Supplement Plans are typically picked for those who want a plan that assures no matter the treatment you will only pay the monthly premium and there are no co-pays. The premium is decided by the rates of the plan and your age, meaning that the premium will increase as you age. Depending on your circumstances it could be more cost effective to have a Medicare Supplement Plan.
Medicare Supplement Plans can decline to accept you if you have pre-existing conditions, unless you are enrolling into medicare for the first time (i.e. turning age 65 or certain qualifying disabilities).
Medicare Supplement Plans do not have a network, meaning that as long as your doctors and specialists accept medicare they will accept your insurance plan.
